Ladies and mascara conosiours, listen up! I am doing a review today of a product I’ve been wanting to try for so long, and am so very excited to bring this to you. Recently, I became interested in doing my part in the zero-waste movement. I found a mascara that is from a cruelty-free brand, is vegan (Note the purple mascara in this line is not vegan), sustainably and ethically made in California, and zero waste– and I just knew I HAD to try it!
This product is also made for sensitive skin, so that’s always a plus. It contains no mineral oils or parabens, and is made for long wear. Said not to flake, clump or peel, and it does not harbor bacteria. How does a mascara offer all this you ask? This is different from the greatest majority of the competition out there– this is a cake mascara!
OK, now before you roll your eyes and say your Grandma used to use that, stay with me a minute. This cake mascara comes packaged in a recyclable tin, which can be reused– you can order just the cake mascara refill which comes to you in a biodegradable brown bag. When you’re done with the tin, it can be recycled!
Not only can this product be used to make your lashes long and lush and emphasized, it can also be used as an eyeliner or even to fill your brows. Three products in one? Yes please!
According to the Environmental Working Group, this is rated a 1-2 on their 0-10 scale which makes this a very safe product, without hazardous chemicals inside to worry about. This is a product you can feel good about using, while feeling beautiful as well! It is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars, with over 500 reviews.
Requirements of a Great Mascara:
Ok, so are you as pumped as I am about this product yet? I had to wait a couple of months for it to come back in stock, in order to purchase it. I want beautifully emphasized lashes, without any eye irritation, good long wear-ability and want it easy to remove.
The last wish on my list? No funky residue on my glasses. I have to wear a mask 8 hours a day while at my day job, and lately my exhalations travel up and get on my lashes, then smear on the lenses of my glasses, until I soon can’t see through not only the fog on my glasses from the condensation of my breathing, but also the little spot that my lashes leave behind! Fingers crossed that Besame’ will be the answer I have been looking for.
72 hour Update:
Well, ladies, I am in love. Besame Cake Mascara is a fantastic product in my book! I wore this mascara while doing my normal errands and food prep, gardening and enjoying the outdoors this weekend. It has been nearly 100 degrees each day, with humidity of 60% here in the middle of July in the Colorado summer. During the weekend I applied my typical moderate amount of coverage. Today I have applied several very thick coats of mascara before work to test it out with my glasses and the mask I must wear. I also got fancy and used it as an eyeliner as well.
Let me tell you, it passed the test with flying colors! No haze of gunk on my glasses. It hasn’t flaked off nor worn off by the evenings. And even with the heavy application I used today, my lashes are soft, not at all stiff the way they are with other mascaras! I’ve had no eye sensitivities.
This mascara also washes off extremely easily, being a water-soluble product. I just use my normal makeup remover, and it’s gone, without having to scrub it off. Leaves my eyes and my lashes happier and healthier.
Now I know this isn’t the product to wear for any occasion where I will likely shed tears. Besame doesn’t currently have a waterproof formula, and according to their website they aren’t in consideration of producing this currently either.
I’ll be sure to post an update after longer term use, and will also let you know how long the product lasts. The key is to get the right consistency with your brush or mascara wand prior to application. My hair isn’t dark enough for me to use the black for my brows, or I’d have tried that out too.
I am so happy I decided to take the plunge and purchased this product. Which brings me to one final point; I purchased this product with my own money, it was not a gift, nor was it given to me in exchange for a review. This is a product I am happy about using, and can also feel good about using it. I’ll continue to use this long-term. Besame has not paid me to write this review, and I do not have any stake in the company, so this review is unbiased.
Hope you ladies check it out and are as pleased with it as I am. If you try it, or if you already love it, let me know and tag us on social media!
