Have you thought back on all the Father’s Day gifts you’ve given your Dad and wondered which were hits and which were misses?  Father’s Day is coming up next month, and we’re already contemplating how we can ensure it’s a day he’ll enjoy.  Consider dear old Dad and his interests as well as activities he enjoys, and surely you will be able to come up with some great ideas for gifts to celebrate him.

Gifts of experiences are great for Dads.  They allow you to do an activity that he enjoys and share time together. They are fun, and you’ll not regret spending time with your family.  Other Father’s Day gifts may exercise his mind, which is what some of the brightest people in the world do regularly!

“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers, and singers of song.”

1.) Golfing seems to be a popular activity, and my Dad definitely enjoys playing a round for Father’s Day.  Typically he’ll invite his brother, and I’ll walk the course with them.  This is great exercise, and gets me out  on the course where I can see some animals I wouldn’t normally see.  If he enjoys golf and hasn’t treated himself to some new irons, or drivers or shoes recently, these are all ideas for a gift for a golfer.

2.)  Or take a class with him; Home Depot and Lowe’s have some classes on the weekends to learn how to do different things around the home– you could both learn a new skill.  Consider some coaching for whatever exercise or hobby he enjoys.

3.) Perhaps some new tools for hobbies to replace older, worn out equipment would be appreciated.  You could even see about getting him something customized to use.  My Dad likes to read, and uses his Kindle All. The. Time.

4.) Hosting a cookout is also fun, and serving up some of my Dad’s favorites like a good plant-based burger with all the toppings, or Beyond sausages with some potato salad, watermelon and cookies or brownies for dessert!  You can up the ante with corn hole games, badminton, volleyball, soccer or basketball.  Wind the evening down with an outdoor movie via projector under the stars.

5.) Take a day hike and pack a picnic lunch for the family.  Or plan a quick camping trip near your home. Bring along the family dog, and maybe do some shopping at a little Mom & Pop shop on the way home.  Make sure to take a camera and grab some great shots of you all out enjoying nature.

6.) Does your Dad enjoy spending time outdoors? You could get him a nice pair of polarized sunglasses to protect his eyesight, and a nice case for the new “Foster Grants”.

7.) Is your Dad a history buff?  What about a subscription for History by Mail— it’s a 6-month subscription.  He’ll get monthly mailings of replicas of historical documents, like Richard Nixon’s resignation letter.  Included is an explanation of the cultural significance, and additional context.

Reflect on gifts that will make his daily life easier.  As your Dad ages, he appreciates the “creature comforts”.  Making an effort to make the things he does every day easier on his joints will be much appreciated.

8.)  Consider upgrading his lawn care equipment to make landscaping tasks easier. Maybe a new self-propelled electric mower, or a cordless electric trimmer, or even a new pair of trimming shears.

9.) A temperature-controlled mug: Ember makes mugs that you can set to the precise temperature that you prefer for your hot beverages.  He’ll never burn his tongue again on a too-hot beverage!  Great not only for coffee, but tea, matcha, cocoa and cider too!

10.) Tools for the Dad who likes to tinker with his car, maybe a creeper seat to help him coast around in the garage, or even a creeper to help him more easily get under his car.  If he doesn’t work on his own car, pamper him with a coupon for his car to be detailed, saving him time.

I hope you’ve gotten some ideas to help you brainstorm the perfect Father’s Day gifts that will knock your Dad’s socks off!  I’m sure there are so many other ideas I haven’t yet thought of (I found it more difficult to think of ideas for Dads than I did for Moms).  If you have some ideas, we welcome you to share in the comments below– we always appreciate your input!  I found a couple new ideas for my Dad this year!
